Infants can not breathe through the mouth as adults can do. Meal in babies, too, in these cases is fraught with great difficulties, since sucking is impossible without nasal breathing.
What is different rhinitis in children of the first year of life from the rhinitis of older children and adults?
- First of all, babies never have just isolated rhinitis (rhinitis). Because of the structural features of the nasopharynx in infants, the infection always descends below and, at best, is limited to so-called nasopharyngitis, that is, inflammation not only of the nasal mucosa, but also of the pharynx. Thus, if a baby has nasal discharge, it means that its throat also hurts, although it cannot tell about it.
- SecondlyAgain, because of the structure of the nasopharynx in babies, acute otitis media, inflammation of the middle ear, may develop as a result of the cold. This is due to the fact that the auditory tubes connecting the nasopharynx and the middle ear are relatively wider in infants. This contributes to the easy penetration of infection through the pharyngeal mouth of the auditory tubes.
- Thirdly, kids are not able to take care of themselves, stampede, and therefore have greater discomfort.
How can a mother help a baby?
First you need to free the child's nose from the discharge. Special suction pumps for mucus are sold, designed specifically for cleansing the nose of infants from pathological contents. But it is not necessary to have such a device, you can use a normal rubber bulb of a small size.
After cleaning the spout can drip drops. In infants up to one year, breast milk is used in the first place in a 1: 1 ratio with warm saline. You are not just dripping this mixture into your nose, you are actively washing the spout. Do not be afraid, drip 10−15 drops. You understand that if breast milk gets into your mouth - it will not harm the health of the baby! Spout baby can also be washed with a decoction of chamomile.
Lactoglobulin is also used as nasal drops in infants. This is a natural immunomodulator made of milk, which has anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory and bactericidal properties. We buy in a pharmacy lactoglobulin, designed for conditionally pathogenic flora, dilute it in a ratio of 1:10 with boiled water and bury it 6 times a day, 2 drops in each nostril.
Do not use vasoconstrictive drops in children! This is fraught with the fact that the auditory tubes will expand even more and the risk of developing otitis media will increase several times! Not to mention the long-term effects of droplets and the transition to a chronic cold.
Before each feeding, carefully clean the nose so that the baby does not experience discomfort and does not go hungry.
When a runny nose begins to pass, a large amount of crusts appear in the nose. The child will experience discomfort due to this. The nose should be gently cleaned with a cotton swab, after having lubricated the mucous membrane with any baby oil, it can be peach, so that the crusts become soft and can easily be removed. By the way, this procedure should also be carried out in a healthy baby, because crusts are formed in a small amount without disease.
I wish you that your children grow healthy and bring only joy to their parents!
